Waste Management Transfer Act (EntsorgÜG)
With the Waste Management Transfer Act, the Federal Government took over responsibility for the interim and final storage of all radioactive waste from German nuclear power plants from their operators. The law also regulates which interim storage facilities are operated by BGZ. As compensation, the energy supply companies paid around 24 billion euros into the Nuclear Waste Management Financing Fund (Kenfo).
